Sunday Sketch

Here is my Sunday Sketch, a little 18th Century-type lady :) I got the idea for her from seeing Heather's beautiful Georgiana painting over at Audrey Eclectic. Then I wondered why I had never sketched or painted this type of lady before--I absolutely love history and period costumes!

Make sure to check out all of the other wonderful sketches over at Sophia's blog Blue Chair Diary.

I hope you are having a nice Sunday! :)

Where has the time gone??

Hello my lovely blog friends!! I must apologize for being such a bad blogger lately! This time of year in Tucson the weather is just so lovely and there are so many fun things going on around where we live that I have been keeping much busier than usual! I have not been getting as much painting done as I would like, but I wanted to check in and let you know what I have been up to.

This is a painting I did a week or so ago, I haven't quite decided on a title yet. She is actually going into a show at Borealis Arts called 50 Under $150! I felt like doing something a little surreal-looking. My paintings "Free Bird" and "Metamorphosis" will be in the show as well.

The little painting below was a commission from my aunt--she loves Alice in Wonderland and wanted a mini painting of her with the Cheshire cat :) I hope she likes it! It put me in the mood to maybe do some more mini paintings in the near future.

I have also signed up for Suzi Blu's self-guided portrait workshop! I have never done any sort of online workshop before, so I am really excited! I spent most of yesterday watching the videos and I am just loving it! I feel like I have learned a lot already. I have been practicing some Suzi-style facial features:

I also want to introduce you to my new bike! Daniel and I went to a bike swap meet a couple weeks ago and we both found great bikes. Mine is a vintage magenta Schwinn Collegiate. And of course I had to get a basket for it :) Trips to the post office have become much more fun! :)

And last but not least, I have opened a little shop over at CafePress! Now you can buy Fair Rosamund mugs, tshirts, greeting cards, etc. :) I am still working on it and will add more items soon. Feel free to give me any suggestions of images you would like to see on particular products--I am limited because I only have a basic shop right now, but I will see what I can do :)
I am also planning on opening a shop over at Zazzle soon.

I may do a sale in my etsy shop for Black Friday, I will post again if that happens :)

I hope you are all having a wonderful week, and have a great Thanksgiving!! :)

The Rose Gatherer

Hello everyone! I have another angel to share with you, "The Rose Gatherer." She is painted with acrylics on a 9"x12" canvas and is available here. I was trying to achieve a bit of a softer, looser look with this one--hopefully I succeeded! I hope you like her :)

I painted the edges and halo metallic gold. I thought this would be a nice Christmas-y painting without blatantly containing too many Christmas colors, so that it could also be hung up year-round.

Also as promised I have some pictures from the All-Souls Procession we attended last Sunday night. My sister Michelle took most of these photos--there was way too much movement for me! This is a yearly tradition in Tucson inspired by Mexico's Dia de los Muertos. It is a way to celebrate and remember lost loved ones. Many people dress up for it, and you can jump right in with the procession. Loved this costume:

Our friend Alisha in her fabulous costume (me and Daniel did not dress up this year):

Loved this too, this girl had on a large white gown and was carrying a birdcage:

Acrobatic performers on a jellfish-looking contraption were hoisted up from a huge crane into the air:

The performer at the bottom twisted and twirled--I wish you could see how high up they were!!

This urn is filled with mementos and offerings to lost loved ones:

It was hoisted up onto a tower and set alight:

It was an amazing experience, I can't wait to go again next year!

I hope you are all having a great week--it is finally becoming chilly here, which I am thrilled about! Last night we could finally turn our air conditioner off for the night. We seemingly have only a couple fleeting months of cool weather here in Tucson so I plan on enjoying it :) See you soon!

Christmas Tree Angel

Hello everyone! I can't believe how much time has flown by--Halloween is over and its on to Christmas already! I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween-we kept it pretty low-key, we just stayed in and watched a couple of movies that night.

Here is my first holiday painting, "Christmas Tree Angel." She is painted in acrylics on a 5"x7" stretched canvas and is available here. I also added some mica flakes to her wings and the stars for some extra sparkle :)

Here is another painting which I actually listed in my shop last week. I decided to do one more Day of the Dead painting to put in my shop. This one is called "Remembrance" and is painted on an 8"x10" canvas. It is available here.

My dad was in town visiting on Halloween so he took me and Daniel to see the Titanic exhibition. It was amazing and very moving. I loved seeing all of the artifacts recovered from the ship, and you got to read a lot of different stories about the passengers. I would highly recommend it if you get the chance to go. Daniel and I couldn't resist each getting a replica 2nd-Class teacup from the gift shop (they were out of the 1st-Class ones, and I actually liked these better anyway).

See how they even say "White Star Line" on them? So cool!

We also went to the All Souls Procession this weekend with my family which was incredible. It is an event inspired by Dia de los Muertos, which includes a procession through downtown Tucson (many people dress up and put makeup on their faces to look like skulls) and a final burning of a huge urn containing people's mementos, thoughts and offerings to departed loved ones. I will have photos for the next post--almost none of mine came out so I will have to swipe some from my sister who is a much better photographer :)

I hope you are all having a great week and I'll see you soon!
