I have really been enjoying doing a little more detail in my work, and doing the 3/4 faces. I was inspired by John William Waterhouse's paintings to do the dress and the ships in the background. She is painted in acrylics on an 8"x10" stretched canvas, and I painted the sides metallic gold for a bit of a fun, Renaissance-y effect :) She is available here. I definitely feel like I am going into a bit of a new phase with my artwork. I like it, and I hope you like it too :)
I am almost finished with my butterfly girl painting, so I may have it to share tomorrow :) Have a great day!
Lauren...I love, love, LOVE everything about this gorgeous piece!!!!! I love how the curtains frame the piece, the incorporation of the ships and the birds and birdcage add so much dimension to her story. Her face is just beautiful...I do love the angled face you have done! xxx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous painting, I love the Victorian feel this has, Could be she is dreaming of being free to fly across the sea to her lover who is a sailor on a voyage to a new world.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! I can see the inspiration from Waterhouse in the dress and the boats. Your paintings are starting to look so elaborate with all these background details, I can really see your work progressing beautifully :)
ReplyDeleteI agree...there is so much of a story here....so much to take in and wonder about :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic!

Love the intricate details, looks like you put in so much of yourself in it, the girl looks so forlorn, I hope she finds her freedom like the bird. I had a painting with the similar urge and desire to fly free!
ReplyDeleteI think painting sets me free in a way! Please continue painting these gorgeous artwork!
Oh my! You did an AMAZING job. There is so much detail here. The bird is exquisite - and I love how she is perched atop the cage. And how adorable are those ships in the background??? The whole painting has such a Victorian vibe to it. SO beautiful!!!! Theresa
